Blake Gilbert has always loved sport and being outdoors, so when the opportunity to join NT Cricket as an apprentice curator came about it seemed the perfect job.
The youngster from the Territory, stepped into his new role a few weeks ago and hasn't looked back.
From a young age, Blake's fascination with cricket extended beyond the boundary ropes, spending countless hours at cricket and sporting grounds with his family during his childhood.
"I did some groundsman work with Tracy Village Cricket Club where my family is heavily involved when I was younger and really enjoyed it, being able to be involved in sport for work is something I’ve always been interested in".
Blake's enthusiasm for his new role and 'can do' attitude meant he perfectly transitioned into the NT Cricket team and is already proving a valuable team member.
"Joining NT Cricket feels like a dream come true. I'm eager to learn from the experienced team and contribute to preparing top-notch pitches for our cricketing events."
"Curating is a specific artform and there are great opportunities to travel around Australia and the world, something that is definitely a dream and something I'm going to work hard to achieve," said Gilbert.
Blake's appointment continues NT Cricket providing opportunities for locals who are passionate about pursuing a career in turf curation and groundskeeping.
Blake joins fellow apprentice Bevan Maher from Parap and Waratah Cricket Club.
NT Cricket look forward to announcing a new Head of Facilities in January.
