NT Cricket Code of Conduct & Behaviour Standards Cricket is a game that relies on not only adherence to the Laws but also the spirit of fairness, respect, and sportsmanship. This Code of Conduct establishes clear behavioural expectations for all participants in NT Cricket competitions and activities. It ensures that cricket is played in a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone involved. Cricket holds a distinct place in Australian society and history, playing a significant role in national identity. This status brings particular responsibilities for players, officials, and supporters to conform to high standards of fair play and personal behaviour both on and off the field. This Code exists to protect and promote those standards and to ensure that the game remains enjoyable, inclusive, and respectful for all. Scope This Code applies to all registered individuals within NT Cricket, including but not limited to: Players Coaches Team Managers Umpires and Match Officials Club and Association Administrators Volunteers Parents and Guardians Spectators The Code applies to all in-person and online environments connected to NT Cricket, including matches, training sessions, meetings, social media activity, and other sanctioned programs or events. Behaviour Expectations The following rules outline the minimum standards of behaviour expected. Each rule is accompanied by a description to guide interpretation. In cases of uncertainty, the Rule itself shall take precedence over any illustrative examples. Rule Description 1. Leadership Accountability Captains, coaches, team leaders, and club committee members must ensure play and conduct are managed within the spirit and Laws of the game. 2. Equipment & Property Respect No participant may abuse or damage cricket equipment, clothing, facilities, or property. 3. Physical Abuse Any act or threat of physical assault towards another player, official, volunteer, or spectator is strictly prohibited. 4. Dissent Public disagreement or dispute with an umpire or official’s decision is not permitted. 5. Language & Communication Participants must not use offensive, threatening, abusive, or discriminatory language or gestures. 6. General Conduct All individuals must behave in a way that reflects positively on themselves, their club, and NT Cricket. 7. Inappropriate Signals or Gestures Crude, offensive, or intimidating gestures are not acceptable. 8. Vilification Vilification on the basis of race, religion, gender, culture, ability, sexual orientation, or any personal attribute is strictly prohibited. 9. Public Commentary Individuals must not make public or media statements (including social media) that bring the game, a club, or NT Cricket into disrepute. 10. Social Media Conduct Online conduct must align with this Code. Content that is discriminatory, inflammatory, or damaging to others is not tolerated. 11. Parent & Spectator Behaviour Parents and spectators must model respectful behaviour and never abuse players, officials, or other spectators. Enforcement Breaches of the NT Cricket Code of Conduct and Behaviour Standards may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the NT Cricket Disciplinary Procedures. This may include: Warnings Fines Suspension Removal from events or venues Tribunal hearings Referral to relevant governing bodies Review and Communication This Code will be reviewed annually by NT Cricket. Clubs and associations must ensure that all players, members, parents, and officials are made aware of this Code and agree to comply with its standards. A copy of this Code will be available at all times via the NT Cricket website.
