McCormick To Lead NT Cricket's U19 Squad

Northern Territory Cricket has announced its side for the upcoming Cricket Australia U19 National Championships in Adelaide, taking place from December 12-20.

The U19 Championships is an annual tournament which brings together Australia’s best junior male cricketers, including some who have already been rewarded with State ‘Rookie’ Contracts.

The Northern Territory side will be led by Captain Archie McCormick (Waratah) and Vice-Captain Nicholas Fleming (Nightcliff), both of whom represented the NT at last year’s U19 National Championships and have demonstrated great leadership throughout the team’s training preparations.

Darwin-based players include Max Menzies (Darwin), Cadell McMahon (Palmerston) and James Hatton (Nightcliff) – while Charlie Bignell (Palmerston) and Josh Gawthrope (Southern Districts) both represented NT at last year’s U19 carnival following their previous involvement in NT pathways.

NT Cricket have engaged with other State/Territories to complete the remainder of the squad, citing a lack of player depth and availability for the tournament.

From New South Wales will be Josh Malone (Mosman), Hayden McCarthy (Sydney University) and Advith Boreddy (Parramatta) – while four South Australian players have been selected including Ryan Percival (Kensington), Suhas Challa (Kensington), Jack Appleton (Adelaide) and Malay Doshi (Adeliade University). All these players have been heavily involved in first and second-grade competitions in their respective states.

Dylan Slater will be the Head Coach for the U19’s Championship, while Himesh Silva (Assistant Coach) and Will Pilkington (Team Manager) have been rewarded with roles after their contributions to their district clubs and NT Cricket.

NT Head of Cricket Nick Winter emphasised the desire to continue improving NT pathways and competitions, with the aim of increasing selection of local players.

“While NT Cricket would love greater local player involvement, the tournament provides an exciting opportunity for Cadell, who has been rewarded with U19 selection as a result of his strong contributions at the Interstate Challenge and U17 level”.

“The U19 National Championships is the pinnacle of underage representative cricket, so I am excited to see our NT side perform and show their talent on the biggest stage”.
