U12 School Sport Champs Begin This Weekend

In affiliation with School Sport NT (SSNT), NT Cricket is committed to supporting this pathway offering, rewarding those players who have performed for their local Darwin Districts and Alice Springs clubs. Of note, all seven Darwin Districts clubs have a representative in either the junior boys or girls U12 sides in 2024.

The importance of the SSA Championships is also reflected in the growth of many of the Territory’s best junior female players. Ekam Dhillon, Eimi Smith, Jordi O’Toole and Joanna Picket were all members of last year’s U12 girls team who have since been rewarded with Desert Rose Cup selection (Darwin). All four will also feature in the NT’s first-ever U16 National Championship side in 2025, as well as Abbey Warton who has been selected in this year’s SSNT U12 team. Hannah Fior will also participate in the SSNT U12 side after representing Alice Springs in this year’s Desert Rose Cup.

SSNT U12 Girls:

Head Coach Nitesh Panchal has praised the commitment and effort that has been demonstrated throughout the training process:

“The team has been training over the last 6 weeks and preparing well for the upcoming competition. The girls are very excited and looking forward to showcasing their skills throughout the competition”.

SSNT U12 Boys:

Head Coach Sanka Wijegunarathna discussed the personal and collective benefits of the SSA Championships for the SSNT side:

"Over the past weeks, our players have been working hard during practice sessions, honing their skills and building teamwork. The Championships is an opportunity for them to grow, learn and represent the Northern Territory with pride."
