Cricket Is Back In Tennant Creek

After a hiatus of five years, regular cricket matches have returned to Purkiss Reserve in Tennant Creek. The recent four-team T20 competition spanning four weeks reignited the community's passion for the game.

The competition showcased how cricket can unite and inspire the community through the love of the game.

The BOBs Cricket Club, Spitfires, One Shots and TC Smash teams played a round robin format T20 competition which saw the Spitfires and Old Shots face off in the Grand Final on Saturday 20 April.

The One Shots were crowned the 2024 Premiers in a final ball thriller to conclude the season.

Lachlan Dunemann, a driver and big advocate for cricket in Tennant creek and Vice-Captain of the 'Spitfires' said it was wonderful to see organised cricket back in Tennant Creek.

"It's awesome to see cricket being played here (Tennant Creek) again.

"There are a lot of new people around and it's great to see the young blokes getting out and into the action,".

The local community also received new cricket nets as a part of Purkiss Reserve upgrade by the NT Government, which will be useful for their cricket practices going forward.

Planning is currently underway for the 2024/25 cricket season in Tennant Creek with locals excited to see a full season return to the calendar!
