Dr Bruce Walker Inducted Into Northern Territory Sports Roll of Honour

Northern Territory Cricket Board Chair Dr. Bruce Walker AM was honoured with induction into the Northern Territory Sports Roll of Honour at the 2024 NT Sport Awards, held at the Darwin Convention Centre on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The NT Sports Roll of Honour acknowledges the vital role of coaches, administrators and officials for their invaluable contribution to sport. They are the timekeepers, coaches, umpires, scorers, committee members, team managers, first aid and sports medicine support and more.

Dr. Walker's dedication to Northern Territory Cricket spans decades, marked by his current tenure as President and Chair of Northern Territory Cricket, a position he has held since 2002. Prior to assuming this role, he served as Vice President for 18 years.

Under Dr. Walker's strategic leadership, NT Cricket underwent significant governance reforms and operational professionalisation, alongside substantial infrastructure enhancements in cricket facilities across Darwin and Alice Springs.

Simultaneously, Dr. Walker served as President of the Alice Springs Cricket Association (ASCA) for an impressive 38 years, earning him life memberships in both NT Cricket (2015) and ASCA (2021). His extraordinary and invaluable contributions to cricket were further recognized on the national stage through his involvement with the Australian Cricket Council, where he collaborated with the game's most esteemed leaders.

In 2023, Dr. Walker was honoured with an AM in the Australia Honours for his significant service to Indigenous communities in remote Australia and the Northern Territory, as well as his dedication to the sport of cricket. His impact extends beyond accolades, as he played a pivotal role in bringing major cricket fixtures, including the National Indigenous Cricket Championships, to Alice Springs.

Beyond cricket, Dr. Walker's influence resonates in other sporting domains. He spent 21 years refereeing Rugby League in Alice Springs and holds a life membership in the NT Rugby Football League Referees Association. Additionally, he spearheaded the establishment and chaired the Alice Springs Sports Facilities Committee for 28 years, further demonstrating his commitment to enhancing sporting infrastructure.

The Northern Territory, and specifically sport in the current context, is a significant beneficiary of Dr Walker’s sustained commitment, passion, and dedication to enhancing and enriching our community to enable people to thrive, all in a voluntary capacity.
